MassGOP Statement On Hillary Clinton's MA Fundraisers

BOSTON -- With Hillary Clinton headed to Massachusetts this weekend for fundraisers on Nantucket and in Provincetown, MassGOP Chairman Kirsten Hughes released the following statement:

"The Cape and Islands make for a great escape, so who can blame Hillary Clinton for running away from terrible headlines about the Clinton Foundation and the Iran hostage ransom by jetting off to Nantucket and Provincetown for fundraisers.  We just hope that while she is in Massachusetts, she will explain to voters why the Boston Globe is wrong to call for the Clinton Foundation to stop accepting donations, and if she needs a podium to hold a press conference - which she hasn't done in 260 days."

Background:

Hillary Clinton will be in Nantucket and Provincetown this weekend for fundraisers. (Shira Schoenberg, "Hillary Clinton plans Cape Cod, Nantucket fundraisers," MassLive, 8/2/16)

Yesterday, the State Department admitted they withheld the $400 million Iran payment until hostages were released. QUESTION: “Getting away from the word leverage, in basic English you are saying you wouldn’t give them the 400 million in cash until the prisonders were released, correct?” STATE DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN JOHN KIRBY: “That’s Correct.” (John Kirby, State Department Daily Press Briefing, 8/18/16)

Citing conflicts of interest, the Boston Globe has called for end to donations to Clinton Foundation. (Editorial Board, "Clinton Foundation should stop accepting funds," Boston Globe, 8/16/16)

It has been nearly 260 days since Hillary Clinton held a press conference(Chris Cillizza, "Hillary Clinton hasn’t held a press conference in 257 days. That’s ridiculous," Washington Post, 8/18/16)
