MassGOP Chairman Calls On Coakley To Denounce VP Biden’s Pattern Of Sexism

BOSTON – Vice President Joe Biden plans to make a stop in the Bay State today to assist with fundraising efforts in coordination with the Democratic National Committee. However, after showing an alarming pattern of sexist statements, the MassGOP Chairman Kirsten Hughes calls on the state’s Attorney General to denounce Biden’s demeaning comments towards women of various backgrounds.

“The Attorney General has repeatedly sought to score political points on womens’ issues so surely she will agree that Vice President Joseph Biden’s pattern of sexism and demeaning behavior toward women is unacceptable,” said Kirsten Hughes MassGOP Chairman.

The following are cases where the Vice President makes shameful statements:

Biden seemed surprised that women would have full-time jobs. During a tour of the Japanese Internet company DeNA, Vice President Joe Biden asked a group of women if their “husbands like [them] working full time.“ (Brett Logiurato, “Here’s Video Of Joe Biden Asking Japanese Women If Their ‘Husbands Like Them Working Full Time,’” Business Insider, 12/3/13)

Biden told a female US Senator to “spread your legs.” “Biden also told Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) to “spread your legs, you’re gonna be frisked.” HuffPost’s Eliot Nelson reports.” (Huffington Post, “Joe Biden Cracks Jokes At Mock Swearing-In: ‘Spread Your Legs, You’re Gonna Be Frisked’ (VIDEO),” 1/3/14)

Biden referred to women’s lacrosse players as “gazelles.” Biden: “Women’s lacrosse is my favorite sport. It’s like watching gazelles.” (Joe Biden, Title IX Speech, George Washington University, 4/20/10)

Biden suggested an Indian accent is required to go to 7-Elevens in Delaware. Biden: “You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin Donuts [in Delaware] unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.” (Mark Leibovich, “Political Memo; Voters Hearing Countless Ways Of Saying ‘Sorry,’” The New York Times, 9/1/06)

Biden has had to answer questions about whether his office is a “bastion of sexism.” “Vice President Joe Biden today disputed the controversial characterizations of the Obama White House author Ron Suskind made in his new book,” Confidence Men,” as a bastion of sexism,” (Devin Dwyer, “Biden Disputes Sexism, Insularity Portrayed in Suskind Book,” ABC News, 9/27/11)
