Tone-deaf former Governor Deval Patrick still doesn't get it: the failure of his administration to deliver a working website for the Health Connector had serious, real world consequences for Massachusetts' families.
A new report alleges former Governor Deval Patrick's Administration "appear[s] to have lied" to the federal government about the Health Connector's failures.
"The Pioneer report suggests that in presentations to a federal agency, state officials may have overstated the progress of the exchange... 'Our public officials not only were incompetent from a managerial perspective, but appear to have lied to the federal government to cover up mistakes made by both the state and CGI,' the report stated." (Shira Schoenberg, "Pioneer Institute report says Massachusetts Health Connector officials 'appear to have lied' to federal government," Springfield Republican, 5/10/15)
That same week, Patrick accused the media of "sensationalizing" the Health Connector's failures. "
"Former Gov. Deval Patrick is downplaying the disastrous roll-out of the state’s Obamacare website on his watch and blaming the media for sensationalizing its problems — even as his administration's handling of the glitch-filled web portal is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice." (Matt Stout, "Patrick: Health Connector woes sensationalized by media," Boston Herald, 5/12/15)
"Working families across Massachusetts were hurt by the Democrats' total failure to implement changes to the Health Connector. Now reports are surfacing that the Patrick administration may have concealed the truth from federal authorities and the public, resulting in a health connector that was destined for failure," said MassGOP Chairman Kirsten Hughes. "Governor Baker's team is working hard to clean up the mess left behind by the Democrats, but Governor Patrick owes the people of Massachusetts an apology for his administration's total incompetence and lack of transparency on this issue."
